Berlin’s complex history, squat dwelling punks, plentiful graffiti and 24/7 club scene are often what first spring to mind when you picture Berlin. And whilst all of this enriches this cool city I often find myself craving a taste of the traditional beauty, you know the type that isn’t spray painted?
Here are some of my favourite, beautiful places to visit in Berlin so far, this list is ever growing. So please let me know your hidden gems too.
1. Müggelsee and Wansee Lake
Berlin is a landlocked city and the nearest coast is many miles away. However, beautiful lakes encircle Berlin. My favourites are Müggelsee and Wansee, both have clean and clear water. Finding your own quiet little beauty spot on a sunny day in Berlin is so relaxing and peaceful.

2. Bocci Gallery:
If you are looking for magical, twinkling beauty in Berlin then you must visit Bocci 79. It’s an impressive old courthouse with original features such as stained glass windows and grand spiral staircases. It is decorated entirely with magnificent lights designed by Bocci. This is a real hidden gem and you may find that you are the only visitors here, which makes it all the more special. A visit here leaves you feeling a little like you just stepped in and out of a surreal film, where everything is truly dazzling.

3. Grunewald Forest:
One of the most amazing things about Berlin is that it is surrounded by forests. Every weekend we go to the forest for a bike ride and watch the leaves change colour, I love it. When it is particularly sunny we head to Grunewald, which is just so vast and magical. You may even spot a wild pig running through the undergrowth while you are there.

4. Vabali Spa:
From the moment you pass through the 80 metre teak wooden entrance lined with bamboo leaves and babbling fountains you begin to relax and forget that you are in a city centre. vabali is an expansive private resort over 20,000 square meters in size. It has an outdoor area, a dining terrace, carved wooden statues, poolside lounging areas, cosy four poster beds for relaxing in, a heated outdoor pool, a freezing plunge pool and a variety of saunas. It is a real oasis and escape from the city.

5. Botanical Gardens:
Step into a tropical climate filled with exotic plants and flowers from all over the world at Botanischer Garten which boasts the second largest tropical greenhouse in the world. My imagination was running wild picturing the types of people that walked through the grounds back in 1679.
